Pag and Novalja
About Croatia, the island and the settlement
Croatia is a Central European country located on the shores of the Adriatic Sea. The unique Croatian sea landscape, beautiful indented shores, bays, beaches crowned with pine forests and perfect coastal towns scattered on the mainland and more than 1000 islands take every beholder’s breath away. The island of Pag is one of the largest Adriatic islands: with a surface area of 285 km2, it’s the fifth largest island in the country, while its 270 km-long coastline wears the title of the longest coastline of the Adriatic. It’s teeming with bays, coves, capes and beaches. Pag’s largest bay, Paška uvala, is surrounded by 20 km of pebble beaches.
Pag is the largest rocky land empire in the whole Adriatic, interspersed with long dry stone walls, home to thin grass, aromatic herbs, sage and matgrass. It is these very aromatic herbs that make for the basis of the diet of Pag’s sheep and give that distinctive flavor to the famous Pag cheese.
Stara Novalja, a quiet and peaceful settlement on the island of Pag, is located in a long, smooth bay in the northwestern part of the island, protected from southern and northern winds. Its beautiful sandy and pebble beaches significantly add to its charm. It’s absolutely perfect for a nice family vacation.
